Aleksandra Ska lives and works in Poznań. She is the head of the Sculpture and Spatial Art Forms Studio at College of Art in Szczecin, Poland. In her artistic practice she undermines the socially and culturally established models of sexual identification, emotional expression, interpersonal relations and life roles. She treats installations, video, object as visual, or sometimes, haptic metaphors aiming to transform social and cultural patterns of thinking and doing. In her recent work she confronted the myth of productivity as a category for evaluating people (Unproductive), reflected on repression as well as perversion of touch in art and everyday life (Object in Possession) or explored functions of intense feelings like love and hate. In her latest Pandemic project, she confronted the global threat of deadly diseases not by spectacular imagery of possible disaster but through presenting scientific evidence that turns out to be fictional. Even though the evidence is fictional, it reveals what makes Pandemic inevitable.
Her works were presented at many group shows including: Retuning: Forming in the Pupil of an Eye, Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India, (2016), Leszek Knaflewski and Soundscapes, Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw (2015); States of Life: Polish Contemporary Art within the Global Circumstance, National Art Museum of China, Beijing, China (2015); Correspondences: Modern Art and Universalism, Muzeum Sztuki, Łódź (2012); The Summer of Youth. Young People in Contemporary Art, Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw (2010); Mediations Biennale, Voyage Sentimental, National Museum in Poznań (2008); Beyond the Reality Principle: Collection of Art of the 20th and 21st Century, Muzeum Sztuki, Łódź (2008), Hot/Cold – Summer Loving, Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw (2006). Her individual shows include: Objects in Mirror Are Closer than They Appear, Piekary Gallery, Poznan (2009), Kitchen Dynamite, Office d’art contemporain, Brussels, Belgium (2010).
